Dice & Escapism

Image
This article was from a project for school       The world is in a bad spot right now. A pandemic has infected and killed millions of people throughout the globe and headlines constantly flash bad news like the new COVID variant, failed government action, and a possible lockdown. To be honest, I am very much tired of all of it! All of this anxiety and uncertainty while juggling the struggles of online classes (like cramming this feature article) is not helping me cope with the dumpster fire we call home. But! And that’s a big “but”! Out of all the reasons I have to constantly live depressed, cold, and apathetic, there is one thing I look forward to during the weekends. And that is: destroying evil lizard cultists, singing cringey ballads, and failing dice rolls alongside my friends in the mystical world of Dungeons and Dragons.        Now some of you may be wondering, “What the hecks that?” or “Is that the game from Stranger Things???”. First, yes, yes it is. Second, Dungeons and Drago

Fast Food: Bites of Nostalgia

Image
The Jollibee Tuna Pie... my favorite thing + yum burger w/ reg coke w/o ice     Last time, I discussed about my love for  Japanese Food , why I miss it so much, and my memories with either family or friends surrounding good Japanese food. The reason why it always felt so special to me is because it is a bit of a luxury item; something to be indulged in and enjoyed in commemoration for something special with the people you love most. I really love food, and how special it is as a part of my life growing up. However, it is not only expensive sushi and ramen with other people that let me experience grand memories; sometimes, even the cheapest of fast foods can allow you to appreciate everything in a level deeper than any gourmet dish.      Fast food has always been a big part of my life when I was younger. I remember my parents telling me stories on how much I really love eating fried chicken from Jollibee when I was a toddler and did not settle for anything else besides that and Jollibee

Onomancy: The Name of Arcane Power

Good wizards always have their spells prepared.     I played a D&D 5e oneshot today with a few of my friends, because it is one of those things we do during the weekends since they get boring and we have nothing else to do while locked down. I have played the Wizard class only ONCE for a different  game, and lets say... I really really really  hated the class and pledged never to play it ever again due to sheer saltiness after dying multiple times and having my spells not work the way I hoped. That is the sad reality of a Wizard; people can actually pass  saving throws, and some have advantage to those rolls. Bullshit.      I decided to go back to play the class just so that I can give it another chance. I mostly played melee classes, specifically the Paladin, Rogue, and Fighter for most D&D tables I am invited to. There are times when I played spell casters like the Bard, Cleric, and Druid, but really felt that I used melee tactics rather than the actual Spellcasting  mechani

Bento: Missing Japanese Food

Image
A bento meal from Kureji.   A Bento  refers to a Japanese packed home-made or restaurant take-out meal for one person. Most Japanese restaurants serve bento  as a form of cheap deal food package for the customers convenience. There are many Japanese restaurants in the Philippines like Rei Rei Ken, Tokyo-Tokyo, Kureji, etc. and I loved eating in those places whenever I had the chance. Ramen, Katsu-don, Curry, Karaage Fried Chicken, Sushi, Tempura, Gyoza, and Potato Salad (stfu; Kureji's has the best potato salad.) are some of my favorite picks whenever I went out to a Japanese restaurants; The food was expensive, around PhP200+ depending on where you were eating, but was still very much worth it nonetheless. Maybe there was some weeb/otaku bits inside me made me yearn to learn more about Japanese food and culture; or maybe I wanted to taste the food I usually see in Studio Ghibli  films (which look too fucking awesome). Either way, I really liked Japanese food.      It was rare fo

My Relationship with Sleep

Image
Some cute graphic I made in Canva cos of Fair Use...     Sleep: one of the most vital biological functions keeping both our physical and mental health in check; one of the greatest pleasures we as humans have engaged in for basically the majority of our existence; and also, one of the most excruciating and painful tortures to go through, when you simply can't.       Like a lot of people in the world (hopefully)  I have questioned how other humans have the natural ability to fall asleep early and actually wake up on time. IT'S ABSOLUETLY MADDENING! How in the world is it fucking possible for a person my age to actually go to sleep earlier than 3AM, get a full 8hrs rest, and wake up at 6AM without feeling like a bloody miserable bag of shit?! It's one of life's greatest mysteries; it has screwed me over throughout my entire life! I bet you all have experienced this scenario:  Imagine it is 8PM ('early' by normie standards); You have a thing to do tomorrow , like

Uncovering Unearthed Arcana

(Blurred image of the AD&D UA book)      I have played Dungeons & Dragons for some amount of time now, and it has stuck with me as one of my most consistent and favored hobbies. You can do anything and be basically anyone! Be a dwarven cleric who bad mouths the church; an elven monk working in reconnaissance;  or even a wholesome and hug loving barbarian orc. The possibilities are endless... but not really. In the game itself you are given a choice of 12 basic classes, each of them having their own subclasses which give you unique abilities and flavor. Despite of this, the official ones in the Players Handbook (PHB) get a bit bland in terms of creativity and flavor after a really long while. The same can go to character races, their subraces, and even the mechanics of the game itself.     Luckily, D&D is a game where creativity and narrative rules supreme, so there are many remedies to the issue of blandness found in character creation and gameplay. Homebrew is one, where t

Welcome to the Bears Den.

Hello. I have no idea what the fuck I am doing.      Greetings! or whatever quirky and casual salutation more socially adept and extroverted people compared to me say online nowadays... I am Yugi, a stupidly introverted and socially awkward 17 year old who suddenly decided to make his own blog after seeing the announcement that lockdown measures where I am from are going to tighten and stay that way for a week; probably forever idk. I've lost most hope at this point.     You're probably wondering: "why the hell would this bimbo decided to make a blog?!" and my  answer to that is simply this... why the hell not! I am too lazy to record and edit vlogs; I have a very small circle of friends whom I can rant to; and, well, I like talking while typing. It is kinda relaxing to be honest.     It is currently 2:38AM, the 4th of April 2021. I am very tired after watching a bunch of historical records within the inner chambers of YouTube; a time when people do mysterious things
